My Approach
When someone asks what style of photography I am, I find it a difficult one to answer. Personally, I find it hard to pigenhole myself into a particular style or genre of wedding photography. However, if there is one word I would use it would be “unobtrusive” The dictionary definition describes the word as simple and concise, not conspicuous or attracting attention, and so that word sums up my philosophy perfectly.
A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event that should be documented quietly, sympathetically without too much interference in order for the natural moments in time to unfold in front of my eyes. The only time there is a little orchestration from myself is during the group combinations and the all important couple portraits.
For the groups, 8-10 combinations is a good amount as I do not want too much of the precious time after the ceremony taken up with a list as long as your arm of various combinations, the couple need to enjoy the festivities before the wedding breakfast. I aim to work with the couple at various stages throughout the day as there are such contrasts and variations with the change of light. Apart from that there is minimal intervention, I will let the day flow, storytelling is paramount.
From the moment I step into the car the morning of a wedding day I am 100% focused and incredibly exited about what the day may bring. Every wedding is different, the people, energy, location and weather, all these variables are what encapsulate the perfect day to document.
I will arrive around 3 hours prior to the ceremony to begin the photography with the bridal/groom preparations, taking images of those all-important details, the dress, shoes, sentimental jewellery and so on. Time permitting I will always endeavour to capture the reveal of Mum/Dad walking into the room casting eyes on their beautiful child dressed and ready to venture forward into one of the most meonumental days in any persons life. I will be with you both every step of the way until I leave in the evening.
So, in a nutshell my aim is to respectfully record and document the occasion, the atmosphere, the energy, the ceremony, the emotion, to provide you and your families with an accurate record of the day’s events…….
